Educational games for kids aged 3–12: what works at each age

Last updated:

Good educational games for kids match the child's age, give instant feedback, and keep success around 85% so children stay motivated without getting bored. Bloom sets this automatically from the child's birth year and learning history, and builds each game around what the child actually needs to practise.

Ages 3–5

Short rounds, big touch targets, no reading required. Counting, colours, shapes, sorting and first letters, usually built from objects the child already loves — a teddy, a toy car, a pinecone.

Ages 6–8

Early maths (addition, subtraction, number bonds), phonics, spelling lists and simple reading. This is where photographing real homework works best: the game practises tonight's worksheet.

Ages 9–12

Times tables, fractions, longer spelling and vocabulary, and topic facts in science and geography. Games get more rounds and closer distractors, and Bloom remembers which concepts still need work.

Math games for kids

Maths is the most common homework photographed in Bloom. Because every game is generated from the actual problems, the numbers, operations and difficulty are always the ones the class is working on.
